'Gays for Gaza'

“Gays for Gaza” protesters are an unhappy reminder of how poorly informed citizens of non-Islamic states are regarding the foundational doctrine of Islam. (i) Members of the LGBTQ+ community carrying these banners show a distinct lack of self-preservation and appear to be completely unaware that for them, living in an Islamic country could bring a death sentence. (ii)(iii)

In Israel, they are protected by law and even at that, in 2022, a gay man from Gaza fled to Israel for safety but was kidnapped, brought back to Hebron and beheaded there. (iv) (v) During ISIS reign in the Middle East, homosexuals were routinely thrown off rooftops and stoned to death. (vi)

Politicians are also misinformed. For example in 2022, the Canadian gov’t donated $687,000 to the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) towards building an Islamic Centre at Yellowknife, NWT. (vii) It is well known that the PM of Canada has strongly supported the gay community, (viii) and yet a previous president of ISNA clearly stated that "Being gay and Muslim is a contradiction in terms. Islam is totally against homosexuality. It's clear in the Koran and in the sayings of the prophet Mohammed." (ix)

Of course this is nothing new, so why are people in non-Islamic countries not better educated? Inadequate and ‘Islamophobia conscious’ schooling on the subject of Islam is a contributing factor, (x) but also deliberate dissimulation.

In 2016, a self-proclaimed U.S. born jihadi shot 49 people at the homosexual PULSE nightclub in Orlando Florida. Publicly, Western Islamic leaders quickly denounced the shooting, (xi) while at the same time privately supporting Islamic groups that regularly host speakers condemning the gay community. (xii)

Invited lecturers are also found advocating for violence against homosexuality in countries far from recognized ‘hotbeds’ of civil unrest. (xiii)

Islam’s view on the gay community is best served by studying the Islamic Doctrine itself and understanding the imperative to follow it or be accused of apostacy. Here are just a few examples:

Homosexuality is a grave sin which violates the will of Allah. Such behaviour is worse than any other sexual sin and degrades not only the individuals involved but those around them. (K7:80-81)
Homosexuals are cursed. Indeed, not only homosexuals are cursed but also effeminate men and masculine women, men who wear women’s clothing and women who wear men’s. Turn them out of your houses. (Hadith Bukhari 5886)
Homosexuals can be killed. Execution or punishment may take the form of stoning, scourging, being blinded or in the case of lesbians, confined to the house until they die. (K54:37, K4:15, K24:2) Hadith Dawud 4462)
Homosexuals can be killed whether they are Muslim or not. (Sharia* o12.1)
