Sacrificing Human Rights on the Altar of 'Political Correctness'
Bending the knee to bullies is one way to deal with an issue I suppose but it lacks both intelligence and honour. Rewarding bullies guarantees that the bullying will continue and respect for those who have been bullied diminishes over time. When the leaders of a country, the legal system and their mainstream news outlets capitulate to such intimidation, the entire nation is demoralized [1].
For those who follow social media, the U.K. is a case in point. I recommend reading Peter McLoughlin’s exhaustively referenced ‘Easy Meat’ (decades of primarily Muslim ‘grooming gangs’) — to learn more about systemic failure and cover ups while sacrificing the most vulnerable on the altar of ‘political correctness’ [2, 3]. Mainstream news tends to support mainstream authorities and narratives — the reality is something else altogether.
And so it is with Islam. Without any clear definition of what qualifies as a ‘religion’, we see a belief system that is intolerant of others accorded special privileges that simultaneously usher in sharia and are divisive to the public at large [4].
Koran 5:51 O you who have believed, do not take the Jews and the Christians as allies. They are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever is an ally to them among you — then indeed, he is [one] of them. Indeed, Allah guides not the wrongdoing people.
This is the history of Islam: Mecca was once a multicultural society, but Mohammed destroyed that diversity, extending his legacy of conquest and cultural eradication across the Arabian Peninsula and wherever else Islam has gained control since the 7th century [5].
For Muslims, Mohammed is regarded as the perfect man, and they are obligated to emulate his behaviour as part of their doctrine. With Islam, comes sharia — and with sharia comes Islamic dominance eventually subjugating all other belief systems and law.
Koran 13:41 “Have they not seen that We set upon the land, reducing it from its borders? And Allah decides; there is no adjuster of His decision. And He is swift in account.”
This same culture shift is happening now in non-Islamic countries with a rapidity that they are clearly ill-equipped to deal with. ‘Western’ laws have accorded all so-called ‘religions’ the same protected status without ever defining what is, and what is not, worthy of that protection.
When a belief system runs counter to the accepted values of a multi-cultural society such that it destroys that culture, the laws that permit this need to be revisited.
Multicultural societies thrive on tolerance, which requires laws and actions aligned with the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. However, this tolerance must not extend to legitimizing sharia—a legal system that undermines these principles.
Below are a few articles from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that Islamic law — sharia — does not uphold [6]:
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.
Koran 9:29 — non-Muslims are inferior to Muslims. “Fight those who do not believe in Allah or in the Last Day and who do not consider unlawful what Allah and His Messenger have made unlawful [sharia] and who do not adopt the religion of truth from those who were given the Scripture — [fight] until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.”
Hadith an-Nasa’i 4184 permits owning slaves — an Islamic practice that has continued to some degree for 14 centuries. “There came a slave and pledged allegiance to Allah’s Apostle [Mohammed] on migration… Then there came his master and demanded him back, whereupon [Mohammed] said: Sell him to me. And he bought him for two black slaves, and he did not afterwards take allegiance from anyone until he had asked him whether he was a slave. [7]”
Koran 9:28 ‘O you who believe (in Allah’s Oneness and in His Messenger)! Verily, the Mushrikun (polytheists, pagans, idolaters, disbelievers … are Najasun (impure). So let them not come near Al-Masjid-al-Haram (at Makkah) after this year…’ [non-Muslims are still not permitted in the city of Mecca]
2. Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status
Koran 2:282, which stipulates that a woman’s testimony is worth half that of a man’s.
Discriminatory laws in Islamic countries and before sharia councils in non-Islamic countries restrict women’s rights and religious freedom. EU Parliamentary Assembly [8].
3. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person.
Apostates (those who leave Islam) can be sentenced to death.
Hadith an Nasai 4059 Mohammed said ‘Whoever changes his religion, kill him.’
Honour killings persist in countries like Pakistan and Jordan and sometimes in non-Islamic countries as well [9].
4. No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.
Slavery is explicitly permitted in Islamic texts, such as Koran 33:50 ‘…We have made lawful to you… those (captives or slaves) whom your right hand possesses — whom Allah has given to you’ there are many examples of Mohammed owning, selling and trading slaves both male and female.
Non-Muslims are seen as ‘less than animals’ Koran 25:44 ‘Or do you think that most of them hear or reason? They are not except like livestock. Rather, they are [even] more astray in [their] way.’ Koran 98:6 ‘…they are the worst of creatures’
5. No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.
Punishments such as amputation (Koran 5:38) and stoning for adultery (Muslim 1690a) are prescribed under Islamic law
Public amputations and executions in Iran and Saudi Arabia under Sharia continue to be reported in international media [11].
6. Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law [12].
Non-Muslims and women are not afforded equal status before Islamic courts, as evidenced in Koran 2:282 (testimony)
Reliance of the Traveller, a Classic Manual of Islamic Law (ROT o22:12) “The judge (0: obligatorily) treats two litigants impartially, seating both in places of equal honor. attending to each, and so forth, unless one is a non-Muslim, in which case he gives the Muslim a better seat”
7. All are equal before the law and are entitled without any discrimination to equal protection of the law.
Non-Muslims and women are subject to discriminatory laws, such as the inheritance laws in Koran 4:11, which grant women half the inheritance of men
Legal inequalities are entrenched in the judicial systems of Islamic countries like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan
Mohammed said ‘…whoever conceals (the faults of) a Muslim, Allah will conceal him (his faults) in this world and the Day of Resurrection” (Ibn Majah 225). Concealing the faults of a fellow Muslim is thereby rewarded and it is an ‘Enormity’ to ‘show others the weak points of the Muslims (ROT w52.1(384)
Afghan women are prohibited from speaking to each other, a ‘system of gender apartheid’ [13].
12. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation.
Koran 33:59 commands believing women to cover themselves to avoid abuse, indirectly sanctioning public intrusion into private life under the guise of enforcing modesty. In addition this now identifies non-Muslim women who are not so veiled as available for assault.
Reliance of the Traveller (o24.2–o24.3) discusses the obligation to “command the right and forbid the wrong,” which can include monitoring and interfering in others’ private lives.
Iran’s “morality police” enforce dress codes, routinely interfering with personal freedom and privacy under the pretext of ensuring compliance with Sharia. Gender segregation is similarly enforced.
Iranian singer Parastoo Ahmadi and her band were arrested because she sang solo, and performed without a hijab. December 2024 [14].
16. Men and women of full age, without any limitation due to race, nationality or religion, have the right to marry and to found a family. They are entitled to equal rights as to marriage, during marriage and at its dissolution. Marriage shall be entered into only with the free and full consent of the intending spouses.
Forced marriage and child marriage are sanctioned by Islamic texts, as exemplified in Koran 65:4, which addresses divorce for prepubescent girls. Women must have their husband’s permission to divorce. A man can simply say ‘I divorce you’ three times. Men may have up to 4 wives.
Muslim men may marry non-Muslim women (Koran 5:5), but Muslim women are forbidden to marry non-Muslim men (Reliance of the Traveller m6.7). First cousin marriage is common based on Mohammed’s example resulting in higher rates of congenital birth defects [25].
Consent is nominal for women. In Bukhari 6946, Muhammad explains that silence is taken as consent for marriage.
Forced and child marriages are consistent with sharia, child marriage remains widespread in Islamic countries [15].
18. Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.
Apostasy is punishable by death under Islamic law Koran 4:89 .
Apostates face execution or severe persecution (Bukhari 6922) [16].
Minority religions are suppressed and may even be killed i.e. Bahai is Iran [17]
19. Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression
Criticism of Islam is considered blasphemy and is punishable by death.
Koran 5:33 ‘Indeed, the penalty for those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger and strive upon earth [to cause] corruption is none but that they be killed or crucified or that their hands and feet be cut off from opposite sides or that they be exiled from the land. That is for them a disgrace in this world; and for them in the Hereafter is a great punishment’.Blasphemy laws in Islamic countries frequently lead to mob violence and death penalties [18].
20. Everyone has the right to freedom of peaceful assembly and association.
Non-Muslims are forbidden to publicly practice their faith in some Islamic states
Koran 3:28 ‘Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing with Allah , except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination.’
There are restrictions on Christian worship in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries. U.S. State Dept. [19].
21. Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
Non-Muslims are excluded from leadership roles over Muslims (Koran 9:29).
Systemic exclusion of minorities in Islamic countries [20].
22. Everyone, as a member of society, has the right to social security and is entitled to realization… of the economic, social and cultural rights indispensable for his dignity and the free development of his personality.
Iran: “According to numerous international human rights NGOs and media reporting, the government convicted and executed dissidents, political reformers, and peaceful protesters on charges of “enmity against God” and spreading anti-Islamic propaganda.” [21].
23. Everyone, without any discrimination, has the right to work and to equal pay for equal work.
Koran 4:11 mandates that men receive twice the inheritance of women, reflecting unequal economic valuation of genders.
Bukhari 304 states that women are deficient in intelligence and religion.
Non-Muslims are treated as second-class citizens with widespread discrimination against non-Muslim workers [22] — in Afghanistan women are not allowed employment at all.
26. Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory.
Reliance of the Traveller (t3.16 and others such as praying, fasting ) emphasizes religious education over secular learning, focusing on the Koran and sunnah of Mohammed.
Koran 4:54 Men are expected to provide for women, a woman’s role is as a mother.
In Afghanistan, Islamic authorities prioritize Islamic knowledge over basic literacy and have explicitly banned girls from attending school [23].
CONCLUSION:
Islamic states did not adopt the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) in 1948 but instead, created their own declaration in accordance with Sharia [24]. For over 75 years the United Nations has not had a functioning code of human rights since the largest voting block doesn’t follow it. During that time, owing to the incredible wealth of the Middle East, migration and other factors Islamic influence around the globe has grown exponentially — and wherever Islam goes — sharia goes — the two are inseparable.
Allowing protected status to any belief system that does not act in accordance with ‘Western’ values as enshrined in the UDHR and in fact establishes a parallel society that avoids abiding by them — such as decisions made in sharia courts — erodes and transforms a society in ways that are destructive and eventually violent. The more sharia is accommodated, the more that society goes from being tolerant, to being intolerant just as sharia is [25].
There is a way to stop this. Deny protected status and refuse to accommodate any ‘belief system’ that contradicts the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. For those whom sharia devalues the most — the vulnerable and marginalized — this change cannot come soon enough.
